My Morning Favorites

I wake up (usually by children, not an alarm clock) and get ready for work. There are a lot of variables in my routine, but what I noticed is that there are 3 things that I use every morning – My makeup. My matcha powder. And of course, MY OILS!!

Have you ever tried Younique? This foundation is freakin amazing! I am not a big makeup wearer, but this is the kind of makeup that makes you look like you aren’t wearing any! If you haven’t tried it, I highly suggest you do! You won’t be sorry!

Matcha powder! Have you heard of this stuff? I never did until a co-worker turned me on to it. Mix it with almond milk and a little sweetener and you have yourself a green tea latte that will make a Starbucks drinker jealous!

Last but never least – my oils! This is actually a variable in that I may use different oils every morning. But nonetheless, the diffuser is going every morning. Today, and most mornings, I am diffusing Peppermint and Lemon. Its a great smell for the morning and gives you a little pick-me-up to get your day going!

Do you have a morning routine? What products are your morning favorites?

A Guide to School Vacation Week

It’s school vacation week, y’all! I’m still trying to figure out why February vacation is even a thing. I mean, do they REALLY need a week off less than two months after Christmas? And why aren’t these days being saved for snow days? So many questions, so few answers. And here we are as parents, wondering…. can I survive a week at home with my kids? They will fight. They will yell. I will yell. They will cry. I will cry. I’m here to tell you, YOU CAN DO THIS! We can ALL do it and come out to live and tell the tale. 😉 See that photo? That’s my stash! Well, certainly not my entire oil stash, but it’s that stash that I will need this week. Here is my guide on how to survive school vacation week, the oily way!

Morning Wake Up
-Lemon and Peppermint – diffuse together for a morning pick-me-up
-En-R-Gee and Peppermint – apply topically on ankles for energy throughout the day (I put it on my ankles because I personally don’t care for the smell of En-R-Gee, but if you like the smell, you can certainly put it elsewhere)

Throughout the day at home
-Stress Away and Tangerine – diffuse together to keep everyone stress-free
-Thieves Cleaner – use to clean everything in your home. And I mean every.thing.
-Lavender, Panaway, Frankincense, Peppermint – my favorite headache blend (10 drops of each with carrier oil in a roller bottle)
-Peace and Calming – diffuse at bedtime. The name says it all!

Venturing out of the house
-Surrender – dilute with carrier oil and apply to the back of the kids neck and on their wrists. It will keep them grounded and frankly, less crazy!
-Ginger and Peppermint – in case anyone get motion sickness in the car, dilute and apply on head right behind their ears
-Purification – disinfect any cuts of scrapes the kids might get while playing outside
-Thieves Hand Sanitizer – because kids touch everything!

Have a great vacation week, Mom’s and Dad’s! You got this! 🙂

What other oils would you add to the survival list?

Cooking with Oils – Oregano

I cooked with oils last night – in this case oil. Singular. And it was amazing! I had added Oregano to my Essential Rewards order last month, but my intention wasn’t to use it for cooking. I ordered it for health reasons. At the time I couldn’t seem to stop getting a cold. Nothing terrible, but annoying cough, congestion, and sore throat. Oregano is an oil that can help with all those things. But lets face it – its Oregano! When I smell it, all I can do is think of Italian food! So, I took my usual lasagna recipe, and added three drops of Oregano essential oil. Three drops. That’s it! And honestly, two drops probably would have been enough. But holy moly, did those three drops make my kitchen smell amazing! It really gave the lasagna a little extra somethin, somethin that it’s always been missing.

I know what you are thinking – Steph, what is your lasagna recipe? Alright, alright…. I got you covered….

Weight Watchers Beef Lasagna

Ingredients:

9 oven-ready lasagna noodles

1 teaspoon olive oil

1/2 pound ground beef

1 onion, chopped

1 zucchini, chopped

2-3 drops Oregano essential oil

1 (26-ounce) jar of favorite marinara

1 1/2 cups fat-free ricotta cheese

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

_________________________________________

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef, onion, and zucchini. Cook, stirring occasionally, until beef is browned and pan juices are evaporated, about 10 minutes. Add essential oil drops and stir thoroughly.
  2. Stir in marinara sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer until sauce is slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
  3. Spread 1/4 of meat sauce in 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover with 3 lasagna noodles. Spread 1/2 cup of ricotta on top. Repeat layering twice, ending with meat sauce.
  4. Cover baking dish with foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and sprinkle lasagna evenly with shredded mozzarella. Bake until heated through and cheese is slightly browned, about 20 minutes longer. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Did you notice that this recipe only takes a 1/2 pound of ground beef? The onion and zucchini make the filing more…. well, full! That makes it lower in calories, but I promise you, the taste is amazing! You would never know that this is a low calorie recipe!

Let me know if you try it! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this tasty recipe!

My Why.

The obligatory introductory blog post….. My name is Steph and I am an Independent Distributor for Young Living Essential Oils! What started as casual oil use, became a borderline obsession. I had used a couple oils here and there, but then really got into them over the summer of 2016, when I saw a friend’s Facebook post about the oil named Surrender. She was giving a testimonial on how well it worked to keep her son calm and grounded while her other son played soccer. I instantly asked questions as we were going through one of our most difficult times with our son. I decided to give it a try, because $26 for a bottle of essential oil was a whole lot cheaper than therapy for rage, anger, and emotional issues. Long story short – it worked! It worked so well that here I am telling you that these two boys in this photo are my why! They are why I use oils, and they are why I am here to try and pass along what oils are, and which ones would be the best for you to try and potentially use in your homes on a regular basis. Oils are a part of our daily routine, and because of them we are healthier and happier than we have ever been!
